Web Writing With Measurable Results

Writing for the web is different than writing conventional marketing copy. We read things differently on the web, search engine-friendliness is critical and the copy must be designed with a specific purpose in mind: To get the visitor to take a desired next step. As a writer with ten years of experience writing for the web, I understand how to make your site(s) achieve these goals:

  • Lead Generation. Visitors to your site are very likely to be highly qualified leads for your products or services. My writing helps them get to exactly what they’re looking for and helps you capture their contact info for sales follow-up. I also create white papers and other freemium products to help you capture leads on your site. A single highly qualified lead can be worth hundreds of dollars in future business for many companies.
  • Brand and Reputation Management. We live in a world where your business is transparent to the global review process we know as social media. Reputation is your most valuable asset regardless of the business you’re in. I have an understanding of brand and reputation management management, via social media, that is based on real world experience- Measurable experience. Ask me about it.
  • Business Development. Are you seeking angel or venture capital? Looking for a partner or trying to sell your company? Your site is the first place an investor or potential partner will go during their due diligence process. If business development is your goal, the site copy can be tailored to make your company an attractive prospect.
  • Clear and Compelling. Web copy needs to tell what you do in a way that compellingly captures the reader’s interest. I don’t do ‘business-speak’, jargon or writing that is overly complex. Even if your technology or services are complex, I specialize in making your story easy to understand.

Working Together

My model is simple.

We have a discussion of what you want your site to deliver for your company.

I give you an estimate for the time to get up to speed on your business (with over 20 years in mar-comm for dozens of businesses large and small, this goes quickly in most cases), for the amount of copy, for keyword research for search engine optimization/SEO (very important) and revisions.

I can also work with your developer on site usability and architecture- in fact I prefer to. If you need a developer/designer I have an excellent one that I’ve partnered with on many sites.

I work via email, the phone, IM, Basecamp- whatever works.

My pricing is reasonable, however I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. A poorly written web site gives an immediate bad impression of a company, an impression that is difficult to overcome. I work with one goal in mind: Helping you grow your business, your revenues and your reputation.

This site was created as an online, interactive resume site and a place to highlight some of the things I find interesting, primarily from a business point of view. It is built on a WordPress template that we (my Supernatural Agency business partner Mike Johnson) and I have fiddled with to make it a little less bloggy.I am an Internet marketer, a professional writer and a communicator. I do these things both professionally and because they are my fascination. I have been involved in all aspects of marketing communications for over 15 years including working as a marketing director at an ad agency, as GM of a venture-funded software company, as owner of two Internet marketing and media companies and as an independent contractor.

I am not a programmer, a graphics designer or a technical writer. I have great respect for all of these talents and could not function without input from and collaboration with all of them.

The links at the top of the page take you to my CV (resume), my books, my websites and my other interests.

Here’s an interview I did on Marketing Sherpa on optimizing PDF files for SEO.
